Other Pubs within easy reach of Low Penhowe

The Star Inn, Harome. (Tel: 01439 770397) – Michelin Star Restaurant

The Good Pub Guide describes The Star Inn as “ambitious modern cooking by young landlord in pretty thatched pub, proper bar with real ales and first-class wines, and seats on terrace and in garden; stylish bedrooms. Most customers come to this pretty, thatched 14th-c inn to enjoy the imaginative modern food cooked by the young chef/patron. But the bar still has a proper pubby atmosphere, a dark bowed beam-and-plank ceiling, plenty of bric-a-brac, interesting furniture (this was the first pub that ‘Mousey Thompson’ ever populated with his famous dark wood furniture), a fine log fire, a well polished tiled kitchen range, and daily papers and magazines; as they don’t take bar reservations, it’s best to arrive early to get a seat. There’s also a private dining room, a popular coffee loft in the eaves, and a separate restaurant. Black Sheep Best, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin, Hambleton Stallion and a seasonal ale, and Timothy Taylors Landlord on handpump, 17 wines by the glass, and home-made fruit liqueurs, with coffees, teas and hot chocolate with marshmallows, all with home-made chocolates; piped music. There are some seats and tables on a sheltered front terrace with more in the garden with fruit trees.”

Suggestions for eating out in York

Café No8 bistro, York (Tel: 01904 653 074)

You could walk past this little bistro in York without realising that it has a hidden gem of its own, a tiny paved garden at the back, tucked away just behind the old city walls.
It’s a treat to find somewhere to eat outside when the weather is good and regulars make a bee-line for this delightful garden. The cafe is open from 10am until 10pm (apart from Sunday evenings).
