A walking tour of York?
When visiting York it’s easy to walk and drift around without really appreciating everything before you but more importantly what’s hiding behind that building or up that ginnal, a Yorkshire word for alley!
Charlotte O’Gram is a good friend of ours and has lived in Yorkshire for all her life and over dinner one evening we were talking about York and then realised that we just didn’t know the city! What an admission to make after living at Low Penhowe for over 21 years and within 25 minutes of York! The following week Charlotte gave us a conducted walking tour around York. What we liked about our walking tour was the informal nature of the tour rather than the stereotyped typical tour whereby the guide goes through the same old spiel!
Charlotte has agreed to offer “Walking tours around York” exclusively for our guests staying at Low Penhowe. Charlotte not only is a true Yorkshire lady having lived in Yorkshire for all her life but is involved in many other ways
- Chairman of NADFAS York – National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies
- Member of York Civic Trust
- Member of York Georgian Society
- Member of York City Art Gallery and fund-raising for the Art Fund
- Friends of Fairfax House Committee
If you want to visit York why not explore York for a couple of hours whilst staying at Low Penhowe, let us arrange for Charlotte to meet you for a walking, talking tour around this historically beautiful city.
In one of Charlotte’s many capacities, she is involved in raising money for York Minster. The masons and carvers of York Minster have to replace at least 2,500 stones just on the East Front alone at a cost of around £30 million. Charlotte’s only request would be that you give a
generous donation to her for the “Sponsor a Stone” appeal for York Minster. To give you some guidance, Charlotte would be looking for a donation of £50 based on two to four guests from Low Penhowe. At the end of your walking tour you will really feel that you have discovered York and at the same time will have made a substantial contribution to the “York Minster Sponsor a Stone” appeal.
If you would like us to arrange for a “Walking Tour around York”, please let us know as soon as possible so we are able to book Charlotte for an exclusive morning of afternoon “Walking Tour of York”.

“We have stayed at many B&B’s in the UK and aboard. We can say without doubt that this is the best B&B we have ever stayed in. The Breakfast menu and the service is 5 star. Many thanks for a most enjoyable stay. ”
