Theatres & Music
York Theatre Royal

York Theatre Royal has been producing theatre in the heart of the city for over 250 years. First founded in 1744, the then called, New Theatre, was established by Mrs Keregan, who inherited the theatre company from her husband, Thomas Keregan. The Theatre became Royal upon the grant of a Royal Patent in 1769, costing the then theatre manager, Tate Wilkinson, £500, a huge amount in those days.
