Sledmere House
There is something about the charm of Sledmere which has captivated visitors for over 200 years. Carefully designed by Sir Christopher Sykes 2nd Baronet and nurtured by successive generations, this very special place brings new devotees every year.
Jealously guarded, but hard not to share, the atmosphere is informal, the landscape breathtaking and the welcome warm and friendly. Gardeners, antique and architecture lovers, walkers, birdwatchers, military enthusiasts, photographers, painters and music buffs all seem instantly at home.

Burton Constable Hall
Burton Constable is a large Elizabethan mansion set in a 300 acre park with nearly 30 rooms open to the public. The interiors of faded splendour are filled with fine furniture, paintings and sculpture, a library of 5,000 books and a remarkable 18th century ‘cabinet of curiosities’ which contains fossils, natural history specimens and the most important collection of scientific instruments to be found in any country house. Occupied by the Constable family for over 400 years, the house still maintains the atmosphere of a home.
Burton Agnes Hall
Burton Agnes Hall is an exquisite Elizabethan house filled with treasures including art, furniture and porcelain collected by our family over five centuries. Lawns and topiary bushes surround the Hall and an award winning walled garden contains a maze, giant games, a jungle garden and more than four thousand plant species.

Burnby Gardens
These delightful Gardens, close to the centre of Pocklington (a thriving market town in the County of the East Riding of Yorkshire, England), are home to a National Collection of Hardy Water Lilies – the biggest such collection to be found in a natural setting in Europe.
Beverley
Most people know Beverley for its beautiful Minster which dominates the town, a masterpiece of medieval architecture with wonderful stone carvings inside. But there is much more to discover. Park the car for the day and explore on foot: tucked away down narrow, medieval streets are antique shops and craft arcades, and the market squares are a riot of colour on market days. A very pleasant walk from the Minster, through Beverley’s historic streets and market places, will bring you to the beautiful St Mary’s Church where, if you look carefully, you’ll find the carved rabbit which Lewis Carroll brought to life as the March Hare in Alice in Wonderland.

Beverley Minster
Beverley Minster is the Parish Church of St. John and St. Martin. John, bishop of York, founded a monastery on the site where Beverley Minster stands. John died in 721 and his body was buried in a chapel of the Saxon church. He was canonised in 1037. The present church was built around his tomb. Building work began in 1220 and was completed in 1425.
Throughout the Middle Ages miracles which took place at his tomb attracted pilgrims from far and wide. Today the church is still a place of pilgrimage for visitors. It also continues to be a place of prayer and worship at the heart of the community.

The dramatic building designed by Sir Terry Farrell is located in Hull on the Humber Estuary, just an hour from York. The Deep is operated as a charity dedicated to increasing enjoyment and understanding of the world’s oceans.

The Rudston Monolith
The tallest standing stone in Britain, at just under 8 m in height, with a circumference of 5m. The pointed top is protected with a metal cap. Dragged from Cayton or Cornelian Bay 16 Km to the north, the stone weights an estimated 40 Tons. The stone was erected in approximately 1600 BC, and its depth into the ground may be as much as its height! There is a smaller gritstone in the nearby cemetery, along with a slab cyst grave. An oft-quoted legend recounts how the Devil threw the stone at the church and missed.
