Low Penhowe - Access Statement
We warmly welcome anyone to Low Penhowe. However we should point out some of the restrictions that guests with additional needs may wish to consider.
- Low Penhowe is situated on a gently rising hill
- There is no public transport that passes the house.
- Our bedrooms are situated on the first floor, there are no lifts.
Approach to Low Penhowe
The approach to Low Penhowe is via a tarmac drive, about 1/3 mile. There is a gentle incline at the beginning and slightly steeper as you approach the top of the drive.
Parking
There is plenty of parking outside the house on the gravel driveway and ample of room for getting out of and into a car.
Access to the house
There are steps from where the car is parked to the front door.
- 4 steps to a wider paved area. These steps vary in height from 6” to 9”. These steps are vary in depth from 18” to 23” and are plenty wide enough for 2 people to walk up the steps at the same time.
- A further 3 steps into the house. These steps vary in height from 3” to 7”. These steps are vary in depth from 19” to 33” and are plenty wide enough for 2 people to walk up the steps at the same time. The final is over the threshold to the front door and the width of the door is 34”.
- Finally there is a 1” step down onto the carpeted hall floor.
Alternative access to the house
Park the car on the continuation of the drive to the upper paddock. From here there is plenty of room for getting off and into the car. We use this access for my mother in law’s wheelchair. From here there are the final 3 steps into the house via the front door.
Access to the bedrooms from the hall
Access to the bedrooms from the hall is via the flight of stairs with a sturdy wooden banister on the right hand side.
- The walls in the hall are painted a deep red with white woodwork.
- Initially, 9 steps up to a small landing. These steps are 8” high, 33” wide and 9” deep.
- Mini landing – 34” by 36” for a short rest!
- 6 further steps from mini landing to corridor. These steps are 8” high, 33” wide and 9” deep.
- Finally, the last step, 3” high
- From here it’s only a few paces to the bedrooms.
Double bedroom with en-suite bathroom
- The door from landing to the bedroom is 30” wide
- The double bedroom measures 148” by 152”.
- The walls are painted in a light yellow with white woodwork
- There are two bedside tables with bedside lights, each has a cord switch.
- The bed is a standard queen size bed, 21” high
- A Torch is available in bedside table draw should this be required
- Heating via a thermostatically controlled radiator.
- An LCD Digital colour TV is installed with FreeView
- A remote control for use from anywhere in the room
- TeleText
- Sub titles
- Earphone plug (you will need to bring your own earphone)
- Output for “Loop Hearing System” (you will need to bring your own “Loop Hearing system”)
En-suite Bathroom
- The door from the bedroom is 29” wide
- The walls are painted white with white woodwork
- The bathroom is equipped as follows
- Standard bath with standard taps and hair shower
- Shower with tray measuring 30” by 30”
- Standard toilet
- Standard washbasin
- Heated towel rail
- Pull cord for lights
- Pull cord for extractor fan
Double/Twin room with private bathroom
- The door from the landing to the bedroom is 28” wide
- The Twin/Double bedroom measures 104” by 165”
- The walls are painted in a light yellow with white woodwork
- There are two bedside tables with bedside lights, each has a cord switch.
- The bed can be in either combination
- Standard twin beds, 26” high
- Super King size bed, 26 high
- A Torch is available in bedside table draw should this be required
- Heating via a thermostatically controlled radiator.
- An LCD Digital colour TV is installed with FreeView
- A remote control for use from anywhere in the room
- TeleText

- Earphone plug (you will need to bring your own earphone)

Private bathroom
The private bathroom is for the exclusive use of the Twin/Double room. This bathroom is accessed from the bedroom via the landing. It is approximately 8 paces from the bedroom to the bathroom.
- The door from the bedroom is 28” wide
- The walls are painted in a light blue with white woodwork
- The bathroom is equipped as follows
- Standard bath with standard taps and hair shower
- Bath/Shower – one has to step over and stand in the bath
- Standard toilet
- Standard washbasin
- Heated towel rail
- Pull cord for lights
Lighting
We try to be as energy efficient as we can be and use low energy lighting. At night we always leave the lights on in the landing and hall for the convenience of our guests.
Drawing Room
The Drawing room is located on the ground floor as is for the convenience of our guests.
- Access to the Drawing room is via the hall.
- There are 2 steps from the hall. These steps vary in height from 4” to 6” and 32” wide by 16” deep.
- The door from the Hall into the Drawing room measures 32” wide
- The walls are painted in yellow with white woodwork
- The chairs may be too low for some guests. If this is the case, please let us know and we will gladly provide a higher and more upright chair.
- Heating via a thermostatically controlled radiators and a log burning fire. The Log burning fire is tended to by us!
Dining Room
The dining room is located on the ground floor. We serve breakfast in the dining room each morning.
- Access to the Dining room is via the hall.
- The door from the Hall into the Drawing room measures 32” wide
- The walls are painted in a light yellow with white woodwork
- Heating via a thermostatically controlled radiators and a log burning fire.

Garden and grounds
Low Penhowe is situated in spacious grounds with stunning views. Our gardens and grounds are all on a gentle uphill slope from the house. There are either steps or slopes to navigate.
We will always do our best to accommodate you
We will always do our best to accommodate any of our guests, however the fact remains, Low Penhowe is situated on a gently rising hill and our bedrooms are located on the first floor have to be accessed via the stairs.
